I have figured a brilliant way to get Ryan to brush his teeth correctly, without Matt or myself having to step in and do it for him, thus causing him to get upset. To get the sides on the top and bottom we'd always encourage him to say, "ahh," so he would open his mouth wide. This week I have been telling him to say, "ahh," himself and showed him wear to brush while also brushing my own and showing him with my own mouth. Then I will tell him, now say 'cheese'...and he will go, "cheeeeeeee," and smile and brush the front.
It was so hard to keep a straight face when we left the bathroom and he waved to all the toothbrushes, saying, "Bye Mama, bye Dada, bye cheeeee."
